Welcome to Halfman Elementary School! As we enter the second semester of the 2011-12 school year, I would like to praise our students, staff, and parents for some noteworthy accomplishments. We have already had two Title 1 Family Nights that were exceptionally well attended. There will be a March Family Night that will highlight "March is Reading Month" and also our district goal of College and Career Readiness. In May there will be an evening that will showcase some accomplishments in student work and also highlight Michigan week. Our parent surveys reflect that our PTO and staff work together to provide quality Parent Involvement activities that are fun as well as educational.
We have worked hard this year to increase two-way communication between parents and staff. The school messenger phone activated system now sends you a message each day that your child is absent. Please respond within 24 hours by calling in the reason for your child's absence so that it can be marked in the attendance system as an excused absence. In case of weather or other school emergency notifications, you will be notified by your parent contact information that you have on file. Please update the office as soon as possible if there is any change in your contact information. The Halfman Hawk newsletter is sent home bi-weekly. This information will keep you informed of upcoming activites and events. There is also a calendar on our school homepage that is updated regularly. As always, it is important to check your child's folder each day. If you are in need of clarification on your child's progress, you may contact the teacher in writing or through a voice mailbox message extension number that is accessible through our school office.
Parent Involvement and good communication is key to your child's success. My door is always open. Please feel free to stop in and dicuss how we can further help your child tp be successful. Together we will make this a memorable year at Halfman.
Sincerely,
Joanne Vader, Principal
